Wellbeing in Schools Australia is a new organisation with new and old heads and hands from the Education and Wellbeing sectors driving it. WISA has people that have worked in Education at a local, state, national and international level, specialising in health and wellbeing in schools including national and state managers previously with KidsMatter and MindMatters, national primary and secondary school mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
The WISA vision is to support school communities to build resilience in all students, especially the most marginalised and those at risk of marginalisation, so they can reach their potential in education and in life.
This first national conference brings together leaders from education and organisational health with evidence based tools and resources to support schools in driving and leading Wellbeing in their local school communities.
This event is not to be missed. See the attached flyer – Wellbeing in Schools Australia Conference flyer – and register now. For further details contact Jac Van Velsen on 0423 823 145 or jvanvels@bigpond.net.au or visit www.wisawellbeing.com.au
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event and helping you to continue to enhance Wellbeing in your school.
Children and young people who feel cared for by people at their school and feel connected to learning are more likely to be motivated, show improved academic outcomes and academic self efficacy, are less likely to abuse substances, engage in violence, report mental health problems (Bond et al., 2007; McNeely Nonnemaker & Blum, 2002; O’Brien & Bowles, 2013).
It is increasingly recognised that as well as teaching academic skills, promoting student wellbeing is part of the core business of schools (Cahill et al., 2015).
